Interactive Multimedia Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs) create Section 508-compliant, interactive learning solutions, and simulations that support performance outcomes. Using and applying the ADDIE ISD Model, we work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather and analyze requirements, needs, and expectations to effectively deliver learning content. Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI) employs multiple platforms, including online, mobile, and blended learning environments. When creating interactive software and exercises using an Agile project management (APM) approach, we utilize various authoring tools to develop engaging software and instruments that make learning fun, interactive, and comprehensive. IMI ensures quality performance of our interactive software and exercises during the execution of all phases of production. IMI defines learning objectives and contributes to the testing and evaluation of the end product.
Course Development is an ever-evolving process of continuous improvement in a learning environment. The client’s preferred instructional design model is the focal point that provides the synergistic foundation for the developer. Basic fundamentals apply to all instructional design models whether the preference is the ADDIE model, Backward Design, or Dick and Carey. Course development is a cyclical process that includes: (a) refining scope, (b) establishing learning objectives, (c) identifying the required knowledge, skills, and abilities of the target audience, (d) incorporating different learning styles, (e) determining course delivery conditions, (f) recognizing technology access, (g) establishing timelines, (h) sequencing learning steps, and (i) evaluating course development and implementation for validity, reliability, and fidelity.
System Training Plans are designed to meet a specific need for an organization. The key areas of focus are: (a) end-user, (b) point(s) of contact, (c) beta-testing, and (d) support during and after implementation. A clear understanding of how each participant will use the system enables the designer to create appropriate training material. Establishing contact personnel early in the process improves the timeliness of contracted deliverables. Quality training requires a window of testing by subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure the objectives are met. We make sure the system is meeting all functional requirements before access is granted to the target audience.
As an integral part of our training and support efforts, we develop tutorials and offer ongoing one-on-one support. Our main purpose is to provide instructors and students with the tools and technical support they need to successfully interact with utilized platforms such as Blackboard and SharePoint, including grading actions, implementing rubrics, analyzing smart views, posting in discussion groups, awarding certificates, and utilizing adaptive releases.

Quality Assurance (QA) provides oversight of doctrine, training, and education. Our program offers support to decision makers through the collection, analysis, and distribution of information. Monitoring and evaluation is provided during course development and implementation, ensuring all established quality standards are met. We assess performance deficiencies and successful initiatives by compiling and examining trend data using a systematic approach. QA also conducts internal and external evaluations including self-assessments, to maintain accreditation. QA is not designed as an inspection program; rather, it is a process whereby formative measures are implemented to ensure a quality product is the end state.

Those who work in this discipline maintain databases and/or websites with the most relevant and up-to-date information. They enable the flow of knowledge which enhances the shared understanding, learning, and decision making while also protecting unclassified, sensitive, or classified information.
