MartinFederal Plays Key Role in ORNL Cyber Attack Mitigations
Dadeville, AL – April, 18, 2011 - Recently, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) underwent a cyber-attack forcing the organization to shut down all external network activities, including remote access and e-mail services. The attack was aimed at stealing privileged information and acquiring remote access to vulnerable computer systems. Cleverly crafted e-mails were sent to several employees, which appeared to arrive from the human resource department of the organization regarding employee benefits. The e-mail lured employees to click on a link for getting more information on the benefits. When clicked, malware was downloaded to the computer system(s) which exploited a flaw in Internet Explorer (IE).
MartinFederal, who has been rendering quality and timely support to ORNL for approximately three years, has been heavily involved in assisting with mitigation efforts of the aforementioned cyber-attack.
